My secret project, revealed!

So, I've been busy lately working on a little project for the forum.

I've debated on and off about switching forum software. Certain features annoy me so I wanted to try MyBB. I made a test forum and messed around with it for the last few weeks. You can see it here.

I did covert one theme, which turned out okay. I'm happy with the result, and honestly in my opinion it looks a lot better then here. I didn't do everything since I'm still on the fence and if I decide against it don't wanna do a ton of work for nothing.

There are things I like, and some I don't:

phpBB

Pros

• Themes look decent (and I know how to do them)
• Lots of extensions which are easy to install.
• A lot of features are already installed.
• Don't run into a ton of problems.

Cons

• E-Mail Notification system is a bit odd and confusing

MyBB

Pros

• Theme looks a lot better.
• E-Mail Notification system works a lot better.

Cons

• Changing images for themes seems a bit more tricky.
• Less plugins.
• Some features that seem to come with other software you have to add.
  
  So those are some stuff I'm thinking about. But I would LOVE some feedback (PLEASE!) Would you guys rather stay on phpBB and keep stuff as is or go to MyBB?

One other thing I will note about MyBB is that its default theme isn't responsive (so it's a pain to use on phones), whereas phpBB's is responsive. So, if you want to convert any more MyBB themes, it's probably a good idea to use a responsive theme as a base.

Still, if you do go with MyBB, then I'm happy to help with any issues you have .

I noticed that as well. I did fiddle with the theme I did to make it look somewhat decent on mobiles.

Ah well, I very rarely go on forums (other than my own) on mobiles anyway, so it's not really a biggie for me personally .

Might be worth seeing whether other members use this place on mobiles, though.

I think this is a good idea. I really like the look of your forum on MyBB. If you need help with themes, don't hesitate to ask Kyng or myself because we convert them all the time. :D I also posted a MyBB theme tutorial in the staff room on TCH so you can use that for reference too.

I've been out of the forum community for a little while, but I think staying with phpBB seems like a better idea since the forum seems to be fine the way it is on phpBB. I'm probably biased, though, because I'm a phpBB loyalist. I'll be along for the ride no matter what, though.

I say go with mybb BUT only if you feel confident converting over to it. I'm up for what ever decision is made & am here for the long haul. :3

Mybb looks just as good as phpbb if not better. I say switch over!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I think I likely will be switching to MyBB. From my testing it seems like it will work nicely. Mind you it will be a bit before we completely move to it, so obviously be using phpBB till then. I'll be working on this whenever I have time mostly!
